on the top: a limited edition shirt from the special olympxxx.
on the bottom: i'm now paying more for gas in my car
than we did in the tour van. which was an '85.

today in the OR, one of the staff anesthesiologists put in a CD. the first song was "play that funky music." fun, but safe. tame enough that nobody complained, and there was even a little bit of 100% lame booty shaking. later tracks on that CD included nine inch nail's "head like a hole," cypress hill's "insane in the brain," far too many early 90s techno tracks that all blended together (or maybe it was just one long song), and of course, a personal favorite off of the judgement night soundtrack: cypress hill + sonic youth "i love you mary jane." wow.

this guy LOVES cypress hill. we chatted a little bit about those dudes, and his personal fave: public enemy. then he said all rap today is angry, unlistenable shit. i quickly corrected him, told him to download some mike jones (he's hip to the piracy), and reminded him that his beloved public enemy were known to be quite angry. he responded by saying that the best thing about public enemy is flava flav.

sweet job, man.

yeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaah

note the incriminating evidence in the right hand.

i finished my personal statement!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11

i think. i've written about 3 or 4 totally different drafts of it, along with several different introductions and conclusions to each. (i even came up with a slightly different outro to attach to the end of the statements i'll be sending to preliminary year programs) but i think i've nailed one down now. seriously, what a pain in the ass. i've got to re-read it about a million times and have some docs take a look at it, etc, and then hem and haw and submit it to my online application, which i *think* will then be complete. minus the letters of recommendation which i'm sure the docs will take a nail-bitingly long time to submit. then i will just rack up an insane credit card bill by applying to, like, a MILLION different programs. for serious.

right now i'm looking at literally ALL the anesthesia, prelim medicine and transitional year programs in NYC and chicago. (doc dayne, how hilarious would it be if i did my prelim medicine year at christ? (answer=very)) honestly there really isn't anywhere else i want to go. maybe boston, but those programs are so damn hard to get into. don't even get me started on the south (carolina). it's fine for rap but helllll naw, i won't live there. and i don't think i'm even going to bother with the west coast. that northwest corner of the country is nice, but i doubt my chances out there without an away rotation. california is not going to be very interested in me, what with my board scores and lack of genius research. i AM tempted to send away apps to places like UCSF and stanford though, "just to see". just to see nothing happen.

i suppose i'll apply here, just because. it's a great program and i love the docs here, but jeez oh peas i need to get out of this town eventually, sheeit.

ANYWAY, i am done (i think) with my application which means pretty soon it'll be time to just wait for those interview invitations to just ROLL ON IN. commence rolling noises.......... (wait for it) ......now.

weekend agenda

required listening:

it's true, i still love listening to us.

[confidential to stv: let's overdub stock sounds of crowd booing at the end of the show.]

yo i polished off that 2 week anesthesia rotation like a sweet ass (whut?!). on monday, i begin the 4 week climb. after that, i have a week off, and then i'm off to NYC to stay with tamz n' bard for a glorious 7 weeks as i wreck their place and ruin my hopes of earning a NY residency position. but i will take lots of pictures.

priorities for this weekend: haircut. finish personal statement. not necessarily, but more than likely in that order.

upsetting that i will be gone for the following:
Saturday, October 1 - Tha 446 at Slipper Club, Madison WI
Thursday, October 13 - Tha 446 (w/ U.S.E.) at Schubas, Chicago IL
Saturday, October 15 - May Or May Not (w/ Head Of Femur) at Club 770, Madison WI

just because i won't be there doesn't mean you won't.

19 August 2005

one week down, 12 more to go.

finished my first week on anesthesiology and i can honestly say that i love it. one more week in the basic course, then the 4 week clerkship/sub-i, and then i'm off to NYC for 3 weeks at Mount Sinai and 4 weeks at NYU. should be a good time. i'll be shacking up with bard and tam'ron (who just moved to the BK and were thoughtful enough to find a place with a bedroom for me since i will be their ROOMIE!!!!11). ideally i'd like to do my prelim/transitional year in chicago and then finish in NYC. i really need to finish my personal statement; i've been procrastinating. i've got two letters formally requested but not yet submitted, the ERAS application to finish... and i need to look into some TY programs since i haven't at all yet. not looking forward to it.

all that can be put on pause for the time being since tomorrow is the 26th anniversary of the day i woke up in a virginia hospital bloody and crying (ain't that poignant?). and then sunday i will get EVERYTHING done, i promise. boy scout's honor.

Frank Rich can read my mind

Someone Tell the President the War is Over

..and now, back to our regular programming..

Cool Calm Pete: Lost

this album is niiice. chill, laid back hip-hop a la mountain brothers (yes of course i know they're both asian, i totally meant to do that). lots of organic beats that bump and flow with pete's cadence. dude knows how to ride a beat. lots of different styles here, some old school tribe shit and some more modern shit like hi-tek or maybe even a touch of kanye (but not too much). AND AND AND homeboy is korean (yes that makes me like him better). apparently he samples old korean soul records from the 60s and 70s!!! wtf! i need to get my hands on that shit. makes me want to shut myself in and assemble music.

peace to peggy sue / it's korean buddy holly

p.s. i went for a bike ride today. yay me. i can't find my key to my kryptonite lock. erm.. so i guess i need a new lock. but that shit can get popped open by a bic pen, right? what am i supposed to do, buy a damn CHAIN? seriously?

PCS: pretty crappy service (i thought of that all by myself)

sprint pcs, please fuck off and go bankrupt or something. seriously. what a piece of shit phone company. for the past month or two or twelve, my phone (which is just barely over a year old) has been ignoring calls as they come in, shuffling them straight to voicemail... and then notifying me about the message (not the missed call, mind you) approximately 2-12 hours later (the longest offense actually held a message over NINE FUCKING DAYS before letting me know it was there). but not all calls. just some. just enough to make me believe that the phone really DOES work. what. a. load. of. shit.

for instance, friday night, my friend rambo came home from europe. i received calls from various friends telling me to join them, etc. i actually FOUND OUT about these calls early saturday morning. suffice it to say that whatever bars they were at friday evening, they probably weren't at by the time i received the calls.

i'd leave sprint, except i signed away my first-born child or whatever to them until may of next year. which will be right around the time i'll be moving, post-medical school. i think it will be time to switch carriers at that point.

this weekend i get to pretend that i'm moving by helping my sister move in... into my apartment complex (different building). this means that in my complex will be myself, my girlfriend, my sister, and my girlfriend's sister. if anyone else related to myself or my girlfriend is moving to madison, please contact me so we can make arrangements for you to move into my complex.

moving on (pun intended).. i got my hands on this 4 disc set called "deck safari" by those frenchies AIR. they're all long mixes which i've been told originally aired on BBC radio 1 essential mix with pete tong or something, back in 1998. whatever. they're pretty sweet. they jam the pharcyde, david bowie, the M*A*S*H theme song (i never realized how DARK that song is), serge gainsbourg (of course), even some beastie boys "car thief" action (plus the jawn they lifted for that beat). niiiiiice.

also been listening to the magic numbers album, which totally sounds like a bunch of british fat kids (ahhahhahahah). it's still good though. and is it just me or does the new/advance copy/pirated version of the new dandy warhols album sound like crap? i don't mean it like "produced badly," but more like "the songwriting blows and the singing is shit." i can't even remember if "welcome to the monkeyhouse" grew on me. i just remember being disappointed by most of it.

ended that terrifically boring hematopathology rotation on friday. i'd write more about it, but thinking about it is making me tear up.

AAAND i finished harry potter #6 (don't you hate it when people call it that) this weekend. talk about a cliffhanger! holy hell, i can hardly wait for the next book (is it the last one?). actually, my pattern has been to finish a harry potter book and then completely forget everything about it over the course of the next year or so (not on purpose!) until the next one comes out, and then i'm pretty much lost for the first 100 pages or so of the new one. then i get the urge to re-read the previous books, until something called LIFE steps in and reminds me that i have other things to do besides read and re-read the harry potter series (which actually, sounds quite entertaining).

current books competing for my time: bukowski's "ham on rye"; murakami's "dance dance dance"; lange's "clinical anesthesiology" -- guess who's gonna win this one...

nerds hate tha 446

new photos on flickr

for the first time in HISTORY (that i have noted), tha 446 received a small chorus of boo's along with the majority of cheers. not EVERYONE was booing. but enough that i could hear it. there continues to be dispute if it even occurred, though i doubt i imagined it. the proof will be revealed on our live album.

we put a lot of work into preparing this show. three different banners were painted, bling was given out to all performers, and a point was made to really step up the stage presence, since we all felt we were a bit outperformed by the GLC when they ran the stage at the abbey.

and we fucking destroyed it. of course there were the usual missed cues and forgotten lyrics, but fourth coast took it to a new level with the onstage antics, including MC FETUS, a "fight" between puss e. beats and tha 446, gas cans being passed around, and all around dancing.

guess we lost the nerd/fanboy demographic that night.

04 August 2005

i am serious when i say we are on some next level shit

ADD THA 446 AS YOUR FRIEND (because we are) ON MYSPACE!!!1

i'm thoroughly enjoying the topmost album because it reminds me of daft punk circa "discovery" + air circa "moon safari." what i'm trying to say is that it feels like 1999-2000 all over again.

the bottom album is the hot ish because it features the people's champ, my main mang juelz, and the hott jawn "we don't give a fuck", which was given this incredible review by the indie-snob-grabasses at pitchfork (emphasis and bracketed comments are mine):

Harlem's Diplomats and Houston's Swisha House are the favorite rap crews of every rap blogger and nine-year-old in America [true] (same thing, I know). So "We Don't Give a Fuck?", the collaboration of Dipset doo-rag model/crack-talk prodigy Juelz Santana and greasy grill-designing H-Town cracker Paul Wall [true], is good product from a match made in internet dork heaven. ...both crews are poised to keep the internet going nuts [true] until G-Unit finalizes the deals with M.O.P. and Three 6 Mafia. [blup]

that middle album is a bit of a conundrum. i mean i kinda like it, the beats are pretty good and mf doom is being his mf doom self as us'al... but lately i've been having trouble fully absorbing the 6 albums doom puts out every year, and this 446 biting has just GOT TO STOP. lil' jon and the crunk juice (drinkin' gas), now dangerdoom and this adult swim bidniz... please. next thing you know swishahouse is going to do pirate rap and the diplomats are going to have a doctor and a dentist in the crew. it's not like 446 ever STOLE ANYONE'S IDEAS (or music), EVER

(let's blow it up)

too hott (turn up the air conditioning)

Tha 446 ft. Mike Jones & Slim Thug - "I Said (Back Then)"

went to thai festival at olbrich gardens last sunday. it was freaking hot, and so was the green curry.

spin that hott new 446 jawn at yo party. come gawk at the spectacle on this saturday at the double door in chickago.

i'm on hematopathology rotation. it is painfully boring. get in at 10am. get my learn on until about 11:30am. get ignored until 5pm. go home.

it's 85 degrees up in this crib. i have a/c. it's on full blast. i mean, W-T-F, hmmm?
