guess who's having the BEST WEEK EVER? (ft. lots of pictures)

clearly, it's the king.

peter and i went shoe shopping and it was pretty awesome. then we said "hi" to publicists. then tamar bought a burger king mask and that was pretty much the fucking end right there. also: dallas BBQ.

matt and tamar had a party and there were miniburgers and fries and all kinds of alcohol. i drank sparks.

the next morning featured a headache. then matt and i went on a date in chinatown. he pretended to be asian. i pretended to be white.

today was day one at NYU/bellevue. actually i'm working at tisch hospital this week, but that's a whole other story that i will never get into because it's boring. weirdness: bellevue does not provide us with scrubs. we're supposed to "bring our own." that shit is totally on some non-sterile ish.

WEEKEND UPDATE +1

NYU finally saw the light and invited me to interview, less than a week before i begin my rotation there. konichiwa, bitches

its been busy round here.

FRI: went to continental airlines arena in jersey (jersey!) with bard to see half of a weezer set and the foo fighters. surprisingly, weezer delivered a pretty good show, and played a bunch of shit off of pinkerton. rivers even ran around the stage, jumping in place and shit, during "el scorcho." that's the most life i've seen in that dude since the buddy holly video. they also played buddy holly. worst part: the travel time. we spent a good few hours coming home, via bus and train.

note: it rained all of last week.

SAT: went to the digital life expo at the javits center on the west side. it was kinda geeked out, but once we got into the sync magazine red carpet VIP area deal, it was pretty fun. lots of rappers and shit. black thought, ?uestlove, cam'ron, juelz santana (FOR REAL), redman (with baby momma in tow), fabolous, dj clue (DJ CLUE), lala and quddus from mtv, and the gotti brothers. i talked with this dude korey from season 1 of punk'd for a little while, turns out his dayjob is pharmacy tech just up the block from sinai. yeah, the convo wasn't all that interesting. oh and there was one of those pro wrestling booty girls that are all buff and weird looking. OH and jessica alba. she was there too. otherwise a whole lot of schmoozing. i think i'd probably be bad at PR.

note: i have purchased my ticket to chicago for tha 446/go team! show over halloween weekend. fly in friday night, fly out sunday night. THIS BETTER BE WORTH IT

SUN: tamar had a BBQ for her internet friends who are all married or engaged to be married, and brought along their respective S.O.'s. so all these dudes got to hang out by default. we grilled a lot of meat and ate way too much food. mexican brownies = adding cinnamon. AWES. met a dude from australia who programs computers and knows a lot about global economy. also met a dude who totally hit one out of the fucking park with his girl, seriously. homeboy got mad lucky, it seems.

note: p dubs is coming tomorrow.

MON: bard pulls a last minute "holy shit" and scores us tickets to see franz ferdinand and tv on the radio at the theater at MSG. great venue. really good sound and the view from our seats wasn't bad either. totally jammed out to a very fun performance by franz. trumped the weezer/foo fighters show in my opinion, but bard said franz was sloppier than they usually are. then we hauled ass to the tribeca grand for the "official NYC franz ferdinand afterparty" featuring a whole mess of DJs and a special midnight performance by sons and daughters. also drinks compliments of harp's and some vodka from sweden. the place was packed. we jammed for a while and watched a bit of S&D when they finally took the stage around 1:15, but had to exit since my ass needed to wake up this morning. today went off without a hitch on about 3 hours of sleep. i'm good at this shit.

note: photos to be uploaded to flickr later on. i need to lay(lie?) down.

things are happening

this morning i listened to may or may not on the train. then this afternoon i listened to mouse on mars. they're like, THE SAME BAND

saw mr. graham smith and the band at mo pitkin's last night. what a stupid name for such a nice bar. the set was a good time and surprise, surprise, ryan smith of tycho one heritage is now the band's piano/keys/keybassist. seriously, can this world get any smaller?

last night's excursions resulted in a whopping 3 hours of sleep for me. came home today to a flurry of emails - i've now been invited to interview at USC. that should be a fun time. i've scheduled it for mid-dec, right when i'll need it. (i've also received the nod from madison - thanks guys)

early-mid january looks like it's becoming NYC visit part 2 - i think i have 3 or 4 NYC interviews at that time.

sinai becomes more and more appealing all the time. this would be a great place to do residency. i think.

still anxiously awaiting to hear from several schools that i know have sent out invitations, so apparently i've missed the cut for the first wave. we'll see if i can hang on for the next one.

oh, and i've received my first rejection: for transitional year at illinois masonic. YOUR LOSS, BITCHES

Schnak

matty and i had dinner at schnak last night and it RULED. we had some lil' schnackies (essentially a much improved version of a white castle slider), some hot dogs with kraut, a big ol' basket of yam fries, and another basket of onion rings. it was awesome. somehow i got a free PBR out of the whole deal, maybe they felt bad for us because it was raining and we were soaked.

afterwards we contemplated dessert but we were too full. then we contemplated actually GOING somewhere to DO something, but it was raining so damn much that we quickly ruled that idea out.

finally this morning it stopped raining, and it's a brisk 55 degrees with little (as in <80%) humidity. waking up feeling cold is a nice change from waking up glistening with sweat. cooler weather + no rain = more likely to go explore the city. it's no fun trudging around NYC in a sweaty t-shirt with a messenger bag slung around your shoulder, weighed down by textbooks.

the plan for today is that rodbard and tamar are getting a lil' kitty. i'm excited/nervous because i'm allergic to cats, so we'll see how my sinuses/tear ducts hold up.

i scored tomorrow off for columbus day. yeah, i know that like NOBODY (esp in the medical field) gets that day off, but hey, the program director offered it to me. i HAD to do it.

Metric @ Southpaw (Brooklyn)

metric was great last night. emily haines put on quite a show. although metric isn't my favoritest band in the world or anything, they've definitely got more than a handful of catchy tunes, and emily rocks out on stage like she ain't wearing a little miniskirt. i got plenty of shitty pictures on my lil' point and shoot from probably too far away.

southpaw was a cool venue. reminded me of o'cayz, but maybe twice as big. otherwise a very similar feel. not that i really roamed around the place, but that was the vibe i got.

in other news, i'm having trouble coping with this cot damn humidity. i need to catch a train.

Chapter 1: Prelude to a Weekend

more at flickr.

ok so i'm not updating as much as i'd hoped. what with the hour-long commute both ways, waking up at 5am, and how much walking i've done, i've been pretty wiped out by evening.

that being said, it's all been great so far. sunday night, i was able to score a photo pass and free tickets to the coney island show of Across the Narrows, courtesy of one senor bardriguez. the show was a lot of fun, i was able to get real REAL close to take photos with my dinkycam, and it was free. plus we had nathan's hot dogs (i had a chili and pepper n' onions, bard had a regular and a bacon n' cheese dog, which looked like a heart attack).

been staying with rodbard and tamar and it's been a lot of fun. the other night we ate way too much food at TING WHAAAA, a chinese takeout joint a 1/2 block up the street. last night we chowed down at THE ISLAND'ZZ (i made up that spelling), a tiny and amazing caribbean restaurant in prospect heights. on sunday we're getting a kitten and they're naming it RODBARD (i wish). time to stock up on the benadryl.

monday i began my rotation at mt. sinai. there's a lot of other visiting students here. there's like four kids from stonybrook, NY. then there's a girl from indy, one from san antonio, and one from jersey, and then a dude from germany. the simulator lab is really fucking cool and high-tech and all their anesthesia machines are the latest model and shit. their technology is a nice step ahead of madison's. however, their ORs in general are smaller and not nearly as nice as the ones at UW. i'm realizing now that the space and cleaniness of UW Hospital is really quite a luxury.

anyhow, i'm planning to go see metric tonight at southpaw. more free ticket madness, courtesy of the littlest muffin aka lil' peanut, mr bard. thanks, mr bard. thanks a lot.

byeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

i was going to title this post "leaving on a jet plane" but that was too cliche. so then i was going to title it "gone til november" but i hate that song and wyclef in general.

boarding a plane in about 5.5 hours to head to nyc. scheduled return is nov 22. rodbard was good enough to score us tickets to day 2 at coney island. meanwhile, keep a close eye on that flickr page.
