today i met with the head of the pediatric clerkship, who is also head of pediatric hematology/oncology. we had a good talk about possible residency placement (boston, philly, seattle, oakland, baylor) and top peds hem/onc programs (boston, philly, seattle, oakland, memphis). i think i'd like to do my residency and fellowship in boston and philly, or vice versa, or in one or the other. both sound good right now. madison is getting stale at the moment. although, i've always wanted to end up at MSKCC in NYC.
we talked at length about life in peds hem/onc, the obvious ups and downs, how hard it is for her to have her work life and her family life, but at the same time how fulfilling it is and how she can't imagine doing anything else. i feel the same way. i mean, if tha 446 record deal never happens, that is.
but seriously though, the doc that heads up peds hem/onc is the bestest. she said i was invited to all future peds hem/onc conferences and events, and that she'd talk to her staff and find out some projects i can get involved with, in order to fatten up the ol' CV. she seemed more excited about all of this than i was! but i bet she wasn't. although she did say that i am now considered a "future colleague". wow. quite nice of her to say that.
